What is the difference between Asphalt organic shingles and Asphalt fiberglass
shingles?
Asphalt organic shingles have a tendency to curl due to the cardboard base matt
when they get old. Asphalt fiberglass shingles will develop small cracks as they
age. Fiberglass shingles are best suited for our climate zone because they resist
high humidity in the summer. Organic shingles will definitely curl in the hot summers.
How long will the job take?
The average three bedroom home will typically take one day to complete. The more
complex the roof, the longer it takes. The average job is done in one day. Done
in sections, there is no possibility for leaking if inclement weather approaches.
What we tear off is what we shingle that day.
Who removes the debris?
All debris is hauled away in our own dump trucks. We do not use large metal canisters
that can damage your property.
Who gets the necessary permits?
Veteran Roofing will handle all permit applications. We are bonded, licensed, and
insured in all towns.
How many nails do you use per shingle?
The number of nails per shingle depends on your particular application. Mansard
roofs and most two-story homes with a problem with high wind will get six nails
per shingle according to manufacturer specifications.
Which is better, hand nailing or pneumatic nail guns (air nailing)?
There is no question that hand nailing is the best way to install shingles on your
roof. Hand nailing allows the installer to gauge the amount of resistance the nail
gives you ensuring proper seating for the shingle.
Do I have to remove anything from the attic?
If you have a roof with plywood decking, you will not have to move anything in your
attic. Roofs with 1"x6" and 1"x8" the attic will get very dusty and dirty, it is
advised that items should be covered or moved.
